Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson couldn’t have said it any better “when it’s your time, it’s your time” and last night, Lebron James and the Miami Heat officially became the 2012 NBA Champions after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 at the American Airlines Arena,
Aside from the championship, Lebron James was also named the NBA finals Most Valuable Player (MVP), a rare feat indeed which is shared by Micheal Jordan, Bill Walton and Tim Duncan. By winning this Championship, he can now officially lay claim to his moniker “King”, his unofficial title since his days of being a high school sensation to his current status of NBA superstar.
The Miami Heat however did not go the easy road, once making the playoffs they had the bulls-eye on them, because most teams wanted to beat them and this must have been spurned by a small press conference aptly titled -“The Decision”. After prevailing against the New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers and eventually beating the Boston Celtics in Game 7...The title was just 4 games away, all they had to do was beat the Oklahoma City Thunder and be crowned champions.
For these NBA finals, Lebron James doesn’t deserve all the credit, a lot of credit has to be given to the other Miami Heat players namely; Dwayne Wade because he showed up in key big moments, Shane Battier and Mike Miller for raining down 3-pointers, Chris Bosh for his rebounding and making people realize that you have to respect his mid-range jump-shot and Mario Chalmers for executing some key plays and making sure everyone was getting looks at making shots.
Much has to be said about the losing team- Oklahoma City Thunder played with heart and determination, and years down the line, they will have their chances again...But for now, we shall celebrate the Miami Heat who are the 2012 NBA Champions.
